Hey its Shea from Mrs. Quinn's 1st period class. I completly agree with you Grayson. In pages 50-100 LOTS more problems come. Like the people in the town start saying Delphine is a spy for the south and they say Tilly's family is stupid for keeping her there. Also Noah goes to war and mama says she has visions like Cass and she knows Noah is horribly sick and won't rest until Tilly agrees to go down and make him better.

So an External confict is a struggle between a character and an outside force.Tilly and Delphine go down to Cairo where Noah is and he is sick, but not dying. He is in a very unsanitary tent full of other sick soldiers. Delphine and Tilly nurse all but one of the soldiers back to health. Noah goes and fights in a battle and LOSES HIS ARM. He remembers nothing of Tilly or Delphine. In this mess another conflict comes up, it is an external conflict, man vs. society. The person renting out the summer kitchen Tilly and Delphine are staying at notices Delphine's skin color is different, and comes to the conclusion she is of mixed origin. This is true. Her mother was colored and her father was white. The owner of the summer Kitchen disgraces Delphine. Delphine tells Tilly all about it, how she really had no aunt in St. Louis and that Calinda is her sister and she can ever really marry a white man. After the war this could cause a problem for Tilly's family, so calinda moves to California.
Hi, this Grayson. I agree on your definitions. One external conflict is women vs. women. During Delphine and Cadlinda's stay at the Pruit family's house there were many problems. Mama makes Delphine and Tilly go after Noah. I'm sure Delphine wasn't to happy about that.

Hey this is Ethan again and I think that it is weird how Delphine has to always look good even if she is just at the house. Another thing that was cool is that Tilly and Delphine are starting to actually like each other instead of fighting all of the time. Also how Delphine let Tilly wear one of her bonnets and how Tilly was very excited about wearing it and how she would look in the bonnet.

The time period in which this book takes place is during the Civil War. The Pruit family is worried about how their business will do because of the Civil War. Cass's visions are pretty cool. another thing i found interesting was in the first chapter it mentions Great Uncle Noah and Great Aunt Delphine and that Great Uncle Noah has a missing arm, so you sort of know what happens.I Think Noah loses his arm in the Civil war and marries Delphine.

Hey it is Ethan again and I agree and I think that u guys are right on with the main characters and I do want to find out how the road trip for Howard is and how he makes out at his grandparents house when he gets there. Also Tilly is the oldest in the family of the girls and likes to spend time with her little sister up in the hill where the world seems to disappear from her and Cass.

Hey it is Ethan and i do not know why Noah would want to risk his life in war, but he did and ended up losing his arm which is sad but had to happen because he risked his life. I also think that it is cool and interesting at the same time how Noah and Delphine get married to each other because they did not know each other at all until after the war so that is pretty cool as well.
